The weather station is a Davis Vantage Pro 2 with Weatherlink version 5.8. The weather station includes a solar powered anemometer mounted on the roof of the house some 30' in the air and 6' above the peak of the roof. The rain guage, solar radiation, ultra violet, humidity, and temperature sensors are mounted 5' above ground in the middle of the garden. The temperature sensor is enclosed in a white housing that has a constant fan to prevent solar heating from affecting the accuracy of the readings. The rain guage is heated in the winter to melt the snow and measure the moisture content. It is the only unit that requires regular power.
All other instruments are solar powered and all instruments transmit wirelessly to the base station in the house, which is connected to my computer and updates various weather information sites every 5 minutes. In addition, there is another wireless station that has 4 soil moisture inputs, 4 soil temperature inputs and a leaf moisture sensor. During the growing season these are placed at various places in the garden to monitor soil conditions.
